Come Monday...Now What?

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

Well, the 9/11 boogieman has finally been found and killed. Now what?

Yes, it is a time for our intelligence community to beat on their chests and shout, “See there!” For after 9 ½ years, not many were very optimistic about ever finding Osama Bin Laden—let alone taking him out.

However, it is certainly not a time for us to let our collective guards down, and by that, I mean the world over. For the United States may be the most hated, but our enemies will take what they are given.

Alas, it sure looks like easy pickings to me—even here. For if the terrorists would only shift their focus from trying to make really big scores to a number of smaller ones, chaos would erupt from sea to shining sea.

Come on now, just how hard could it be to send a rocket-propelled grenade into a gasoline tanker stuck in traffic on an L.A. area freeway? Hey, anything that could rupture the tank and set a fire would do the trick.

Fuel storage tanks at a convenience store would be an even easier target. For it would take 30 seconds at most to remove the lock and throw a match down the pipe, and an awful lot do not even padlock the lids.

What about all of the pipelines that carry natural gas all over the country? Is every inch monitored?

Yes, great lengths have been taken to prevent a terrorist attack, but what can be really done to stop someone who believes that an eternity in Paradise awaits them from turning our daily lives upside down? What do you think, 50-60 dead and dying in Times Square before the police can take the sniper out?

So, do you still want to believe that it is because of our vigilance that has kept life in America relatively peaceful since September 11, 2001, or could it be that it has been our Heavenly Father who has been keeping the wolves at bay? Tragically, far too many in the Christian community consider that to be a moot point because of being led to believe that He has nothing to do with our daily affairs.
