“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).
My time as a member of the [Boy Scouts of America] is arguably when I shined the brightest in the eyes of this world. You can read about some of the highlights in [The Eighth Crumb] of [The Crackerhead Chronicles].
Oh yeah, I would have highly recommended the experience to most, but that has come to a screeching halt after watching a segment of [ABC’s Nightline] that aired last week. I’m sorry, I failed to find an embeddable video of the segment, but you can go [here] to see it for yourself.
No, my drastic change of heart is not on account of the tragic death of [Michael Sclawy- Adelman]. For I do not believe that the leader of the hike pushed him way too hard.
It is, however, on account of the responses offered by those three BSA officials that has me so appalled. For they might as well have been reading a statement prepared by their legal department.
I would even consider the interview to have been a rather soft one—wouldn’t you? For when that lady said, “There are circumstances beyond our control, but that is when our training kicks in,” the door was left wide open for a comeback of, “Well, that training sure seems to be woefully inadequate.”
Yes, during an age when anything you say can be twisted completely out of context in a court-of-law, it is advisable to say as little as possible, but appearing to be disingenuous just makes it worse—does it not? Methinks [Shakespeare] may have been on to something.
