“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about, websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time. Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.” This is subject to change, however. In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while. For rants promote change, and change can be good—right? Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).
A few weeks ago, it was brought to my attention that [Carolyn Craig], who was a couple of years behind me at [Cassville High School], had a book out (with a couple of co-authors) by the name of [Dark Side], and just a few pages in, I started recognizing some very familiar characters. For the book is about six rather rowdy redneck ladies out on a road trip to San Antonio, Texas in order to finalize the sale of the infamous Vampire Bible.
No, no one in particular came to mind, but since I have spent a considerable amount of time in the company of the sort, there was much about each of the heroines that brought back some interesting memories of my wilder days. If you have no idea what I am talking about, think of [Thelma & Louise]. For these are the kind of ladies who are ready to make love or war at the drop of a hat, and quite often, one will lead to the other.
Oh yeah, there is a lot about the book that could be chalked-up to comic relief. For she even has one of heroines using what she learned from taking an online [taekwondo] course to literally kick the butt of a vampire all over the place.
Yeah, let’s go with comic relief. For to suggest otherwise would be insulting, and then her peoples would be honor-bound to go thump on my peoples. Subsequently, my peoples would be honor-bound to retaliate, and a feud between the Beuterbaughs and the Craigs just doesn’t have the same appeal as one between the [Hatfields and McCoys].
All in all, I do believe that you will find the book highly entertaining for a number of reasons. Now, it goes where the typical [Harlequin Romance Novel] only hints at, but only to the extent of what you ladies like to fantasize about when a manly man like me is around.
