You can now receive a video call from your favorite KPOP stars

star_Web_main_01
Star Call emailed me and they introduced to me about this video call app that they provide and with this app you can send video and voice messages to your favorite KPOP stars! and in return, the KPOP stars can send back a video or voice reply or message back to you.

yes! you can have a video conference and conversation with them in real time!
Star Call introduces this new concept of communication service in connecting fans and KPOP stars. This will help the fans get in touch with their KPOP favorites and also get first feedback from fans and how they love their act and music.

Now I imagine that I receive a hello greetings from Girls Generation, or a flying kiss video message from 2nE1 or U-Kiss.. (lol) I'm glad that the Star Call app is available in iOS and Android, I'm going to try and see how much they charge for a video message service. I hope next time they open up a Star Call with Korean drama stars! and if they expand...hope they go to Hollywood too.

Globe pulls 'Lamborghini' Internet sticks from market

OMG!!!!

MANILA, Philippines – Threatened by a lawsuit despite claiming it had gotten authority from a Singapore-based master franchisor to use the Tonino Lamborghini brand on its latest mobile broadband sticks, Globe Telecom Inc. has pulled out the product from the market.

Company officials said they would rather wait until they have fully clarified the matter with Italy-based Tonino Lamborghini, maker of hand-made watches.

According to Globe spokesperson Yoly Crisanto, Globe has temporarily ceased marketing and selling the Tonino Lamborghini broadband stick which is enabled with High-Speed Packet Access-plus, or HSPA+, mobile technology.

The Italy-based firm earlier described Globe’s Tonino Lamborghini Internet stick as a counterfeit product because it never gave the cellular firm the authority to use the “Tonino Lamborghini” brand.

Hands on test with a SMART Netphone

P8314715

Last night was the press briefing for the launch of the SMART Netphone and now lots of units are released to the public for them to test and try the SMART Netphone at the PLDT-SMART Jump Experience Center in Cyberzone, SM Megamall. I arrived late at the press briefing and I already caught the Q and A session with the SMART team and the media. I want to test the phone myself and I'm glad that they have lots of units in store for everyone, the Jump Squad supervisor Bernie approached me and then she showed me a little walkthrough on the phone, we tested two units, one for her and one for me, I finally got the chance to test it myself and the phone is very okay and user friendly. (MORE STORY BELOW)

Now I'm starting to think if this will click to the pinoy mobile phone fans, esp. to those who want to own a touch screen android phone, I didn't have any touch screen phone so I'm a little excited about the release of SMART Netphone in all stores this Sept. 10, but I did tried and tested lots of touch screen phones of different brands and I can tell if the touch screen reacts in an accurate way.

For this SMART Netphone, the touch sensitivity of the screen is smooth and I noticed that there's no delay after clicking a button, I also tried the QWERTY keypad screen function and I saw that the buttons are so small but the worry of my big fingers are gone when I started typing and I just got two mistype letters when I composed a message "The quick brown fox..." , The keypad inputs has three kinds, the QWERTY, the ABC and I saw a third one that has the key QW, like a qwerty keypad but two letter per button, its a new keypad function for me but I didn't tried typing on it.

The home screen menu is just like those android type of phones, and I'm glad that it didn't follow the same iPhone, LG and Samsung home screen with lots of buttons, or shall I say iPhone like button home screen. The home screen looks like a Nokia and a HTC, but I love the display and it is very simple and you can add more widgets on the next desktop, I'm not sure if you can add more desktop screen, but I count it and there are around 5 desktop screens.

The home screen shows this tab with your own number flashed on the screen and the amount balance you have for your phone, the amount balance will update in real time whenever you use your phone in texting, calling and net surfing, for post paid subscribers, it will work the same display. The good perk of this phone if you will buy it today is that the phone will serve free internet connection via using the SMARTNet service, an internet free network by SMART, to its SOCIAL MEDIA STREAM app, that means that there will be free posting and reading of live Tweets and Facebook updates, and also you can chat via YM and Facebook, according to the SMART team, that this free internet service will be offered till December 2011, and I'm not even sure if they will add more app service, because checking your email and surf the net out of the social media stream will charge you with data plan rates. And I heard that maybe in the future they can add Gtalk and other social networking connection via the SMART Net.

The SMART Net also is like your automatic feed update, all updates and promo offered by SMART will be downloaded to the netphone, it will be just the content and no additional fees required, all free! And its just like updating your gadget's firmware. And there's no longer need in keying in codes if you want to avail txt or call promo offers, because at the SMART Net option, you can choose on the menu on what kind of promo offer you want to available and in one click, you can get the promo and the payment for the promo will be deducted automatically to your load, whenever a new promo comes in, SMART Net will just update the list and inform you of the live updates via the SMART Net.

You can also disable the SMART Net if you want to save battery or want to connect directly to available Wifi or 3G and HSPA network.

Phonebook storage - this is cool and new for me, (I know that this feature is also available on other phones) we no longer worry on the phone book limits of the phone, here in the SMART Netphone, all your directories will be stored securely in a cloud and it can hold a lot of directory and data for you, so space for the phone directory is unlimited, I think this service is under the SMART Net on which it connects to the cloud system and it will be available for you to check and read it anytime.

I haven't tried doing some multi tasking thing on the netphone, but I know that its processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600Mhz MSM7227 (S1 Class) can perform like those other touch screen phones with the same Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Its so light and small, slim and very classy look for a price at P9,900.

I'll post more updates soon if ever we can try some apps and surf the phone.

SMART Bro Rocket internet USB dongle speeds up to 12Mbps

Smart Bro Rocket Plug-It 1
This is a new addition to the SMART Bro internet USB dongle family, with up to 12Mbps internet speed that runs in the HSPA+ network, the next fast connection after HSPA  and 3G and the next level before LTE. The SMART Bro Rocket is now available in selected Smart store nationwide, price is P3,995 and with an open prepaid service that offers the fastest mobile internet for your PC and laptops.
(MORE STORY BELOW)

Here's the network coverage of HSPA+ as of no -  Metro Manila and some key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

I’m not really sure yet if this will work if I use it here at home in Cavite, when I read that it is only available as of now in Metro Manila, I have already doubts that the connection reaching here in my area will be less than 12Mbps or might run at around 8Mbps, but what the heck, for me..that is already fast, but it will be great if I can receive a download rate of 12Mbps.  But I'm just saying that I;m not sure if the connection is good, since SMART signal here at home is bad, but the dongle and the speed will be effective for me if I use it in Manila since I always go there and do some of my work in  a coffee shop.

We still have a long way to go and wait for the launch of SMART LTE, and that will be around next year, so if you can’t wait for the fastest internet connection that speeds up to 60Mbps that SMART LTE gives, then we can start and use SMART Bro Rocket for the meantime. I’m glad that this one came out after their competitor’s release of their 5Mbps internet dongle, it’s a little bit pricey for me since they open it only for postpaid subscribers, but then I’m happy that SMART opened their new service for prepaid users like me.

I haven’t tried this Smart Bro Rocket yet, but I’ll post a review once I bought my own unit, I’m not really sure if the loading of the prepaid will be the same like the Smart Bro Starter kit (2Mbps) and the new Smart Bro Plug-it (3.6 Mbps), because both Sim and dongle can activate that unlimited surfing promo by Smart Buddy, I think I’m going to research that and see if we can do a unlimited surfing load to SmartBro Rocket.

According to the press release, regular browsing costs for Smart Bro Rocket is P10 per 30 minutes.

New revolutionary social app experience with BBM 6

Here’s a news from RIM as they announces the release of BBM 6, this is for my readers who are BlackBerry users, check the updates here and see how this can connect and interact you from within the BBM connected apps. Check out also some good reviews about BBM 6. I know you want it, especially the FourSquare app for your BB.

More news below

- press release -

Apps become social experiences once users can interact with their BBM friends
Waterloo, ON - BBM™ (BlackBerry® Messenger), one of the largest mobile social networks in the world is now enabling a new and revolutionary social experience. Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the availability of BBM version 6 (BBM 6), which provides support for "BBM connected" apps, allowing users to easily interact with each other from within the BBM connected app.

BBM connected apps integrate the popular functionality of the BBM service and offer users the ability to interact with their friends from within the app itself. For example, with a BBM connected game app, users can invite their BBM friends to join them in a game and then chat with one another in real time while the game is being played – without ever leaving the game app.

BBM 6 launches today and a selection of BBM connected apps are already available on BlackBerry App World™.

“BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users,” said Alistair Mitchell, VP, BBM Platform & Integrated Services at Research In Motion. “It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.”

Some of the additional functionality users can expect to see with BBM connected applications include the ability to:

· Share app experiences with friends - When a user discovers a great new BBM connected app, they can instantly let their friends know about it. Users can simply select a BBM contact directly within the BBM connected app they are using.

· Have a BBM chat within apps - Users can simply pull up their BBM contact list directly from within the BBM connected app and start chatting. For example, the functionality can enable everything from enhanced social game play to collaboration through productivity apps.

· Discover apps through friends – Users can also discover new apps by viewing the list of apps that are posted to a BBM friend’s profile. They can also click on an app within the list, and instantly download it from BlackBerry App World.

The BBM 6 software will be available later today at www.blackberry.com/blackberrymessenger. A selection of BBM connected apps will also be posted on BlackBerry App World this week, with many more expected over the coming months.

“Unvired Workflow for SAP enables approval of SAP workflow requests directly from the BlackBerry smartphone. Unvired leverages the BlackBerry message list and BBM to provide a familiar BlackBerry user experience,” said Srinivasan Subramanian, CEO, Indience InfoSystems Pvt Ltd. “The BBM platform has been smartly integrated to enable employees to collaborate seamlessly. If the user has some queries while approving the workflow, they can BBM their colleague or Manager, transfer a screenshot of the workflow item and clarify. They can then approve or reject the workflow request. The BBM chat can also be emailed to maintain an audit trail. The BBM integration with Unvired ensures quick turnaround and collaboration between employees, not just for workflow but other usages like checking discounts for a customer, escalating a customer grievance and much more.” - (Indience InfoSystems Pvt Ltd)

“Jingu users are engaging with BlackBerry Messenger in an exciting new way,” said Pankaj Gogia, Founder, Jingu Apps. “With BBM 6, ease of use is greatly enhanced with capabilities like updating your BBM profile picture directly from within the application. “Players have always been able to play Backgammon King against real opponents but playing against your friends took a lot of time and effort,” said Troy Johnson, Director Strategic Initiatives, Magmic. “Your BBM contacts are your friends and BBM 6 is making it incredibly easy to share Backgammon King with them and invite them to play in real-time. The ease of access to our product, the ease of sharing and the ease of player engagement are each major breakthroughs. Through BBM 6 PowWow users can share their location information, which is displayed in BlackBerry Maps. There is also an option to check your contact's availability directly from their calendars and to create an event with this information; this is a very useful tool in event planning and saves time in the process.”
- (PowWow)

“I don’t know anyone who doesn’t immediately react to the 'chime' of BBM,” said Margaret Glover-Campbell, VP Marketing & PR of Poynt Corporation. “Being able to leverage BBM 6 to share search results provides a tremendous advantage to our BlackBerry smartphone user base who can now easily and quickly coordinate their social activities. The ability to share the app download directly within BBM is also exciting for us, given the immediacy and viral nature of the platform. From a development perspective, we see tremendous possibilities for future integration around connecting people while they’re on the go.” - (Poynt)

“Following sports is inherently social – fans are extremely passionate, and like to trash talk, comment, and generally share their opinions on whatever they’re watching,” says Dale Fallon, VP Digital Products, Score Media. “By integrating BBM 6 functionality right into the ScoreMobile experience, we enable our users to enjoy the game with their friends even when they’re not together. In a nutshell, BBM 6 integration allows sports fans to be social without having to leave the ScoreMobile app.” - (ScoreMedia)

“Telmap, a global location-based services leader, is very focused on serving all users’ needs by constantly enriching and optimizing their on-the-go experiences,” said Motti Kushnir, Telmap Chief Marketing Officer. “The integration between BBM 6 and the Telmap Mobile Location Companion significantly enriches conversations and interactions through BBM with users’ real-time locations. Telmap views this integration as an important pillar of our vision to provide a richer, more comprehensive experience to our users. We work hard to integrate our application with popular and useful platforms like BBM, to ensure added value to users who can now add location information to their interactions with friends."- (Telemap)

"BBM 6 is the underlying mobile social network making Wikitude on the BlackBerry platform a very unique experience. An augmented reality (AR) browser with millions of interesting places is already a very compelling and new proposition, but bringing it to life with millions of people who can chat, meet and share in an AR environment has the potential to revolutionize how we interact with one another. With BBM 6 and Wikitude preloaded on upcoming BlackBerry smartphones our AR browser will be truly going social for the very first time," says Andy Gstoll, CMO of Wikitude. - (Wikitude)

SMART press release: Smart expands coverage of 'HelLow' IDD service to top OFW destinations

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) today announced the expansion of its ‘HelLow’ low-cost international direct dialing (IDD) service, to include four countries with the most number of Filipino contract workers. Link
HelLow is the country’s first reloadable IDD card which can be used on any Smart or Talk ‘N Text cellphone to make low-cost calls to top OFW destinations, via sachet-sized load denominations.

With HelLow’s expanded coverage, low-cost calls to France, Indonesia, Kuwait, and Spain – where an estimated .25 million Filipinos live or work -- is now possible. Calls that cost as low as P2.50 per minute may also be made to other frequently-called countries and territories.

The expansion is geared at “enabling Philippine-based families of OFWs to increase the frequency of their outbound calls,” according to Danilo Mojica, head of Smart’s Wireless Consumer Division.

Available data show that despite the staggering number of OFWs worldwide –- now about 11 million -- only a small percentage of mobile subscribers in the Philippines initiate calls, and these calls are normally even kept short. This is due to the perception that IDD is a premium – and therefore expensive -- service.

“We would like to encourage Smart subscribers to call their loved-ones abroad, by providing them with reliable and affordable IDD access,” added Mojica.

With HelLow, calls to Canada, mainland US, Guam, and Hawaii cost only P2.50 per minute. Calls to Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, and Hong Kong cost P5.

For calls to Japan, Australia, UK, Italy, and Thailand, HelLow offers P8 per minute, while calls to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Brunei, Macau, Bahrain, India, and now France, Indonesia, Kuwait, and Spain cost only P10 per minute.

HelLow cards (SRP: P30) are available at any Smart Store and other accredited resellers all over the country, and every card comes pre-loaded with P30. Printed on the plastic card are the unique account number and PIN.

To make a call, simply use any Smart or Talk ‘N Text cellphone, dial *4336 + the 11-digit account number, follow the voice prompt, then key in the PIN and the number being called.

To inquire about the load balance of a HelLow account, or to know the per-minute rate for calling a particular country, dial *4337 + the 11-digit account number, follow the voice prompt, then key in the PIN and the service being checked.

The per-minute charge is deducted from the HelLow account, and not from the Smart or Talk ‘N Text SIM in the handset.

The P30 load that comes with the HelLow reloadable IDD card may be used up to the last P2.50, and load comes in denominations of as low as P15, available from any of Smart’s nationwide network of over 1.3 million e-load sellers.

Smart is the Filipinos’ biggest mobile network to the world, serving 46.6 million subscribers as of end- March 2011. Its products and services are available in over 200 countries abroad in partnership with over 400 network operators.
