Thinking of Christmas Gifts in July

I would think that it would be needlessly to say, but considering the level of sophistication to many of my readers, it would probably be better to just go ahead and spell it out. Therefore, please be advised that this is one of a number of special edition Sites To See, and all included in it may have something that just might fit quite nicely under your Christmas tree (or stuffed in a stocking) a few very short months from now. As in the regular Sites To See, the link provided below is to the main site, and the images are linked to their particular page, when applicable. The images serve as an example of what they have to offer, and they are not necessarily meant as a recommendation. Although, they do represent something that I liked to at least a certain extent, but since my wife does not like me all that much most of the time (no, I have no idea why, neither), I do not expect to see any of them with my name on it. Hopefully, it is better in your family, and I am quite sure that the artisans here would greatly appreciate your business. Besides, spending your money on things that are made and marketed by people not so unlike yourself strikes a blow against corporate greed and all of that other stuff, which is supposed to be a good thing—right?

Peter, Paul and Mary vs. Gordon Lightfoot

Early Mornin’ Rain
Peter, Paul and Mary
In the early mornin’ rain
With a dollar in my hand
And an achin’ in my heart
And my pockets full of sand
I’m a long way from home
And I miss my loved one so
In the early mornin’ rain
With no place to go

Out on runway number nine
Big seven-o-seven set to go
But I’m out here on the grass
Where the pavement never grows
Well the liquor tasted good
And the women all were fast
There she goes my friend
She’s a-rollin’ down at last

Hear the mighty engine roar
Hear the mighty engine roar
See the silver wing on high
See the silver wing on high
She’s away and westward bound
Far above the clouds she’ll fly
Where the mornin’ rain don’t fall
And the sun always shines
She’ll be flyin’ o’re my home
In about three hours time

This old airport’s got me down
It’s no earthly good to me
‘Cause I’m stuck here on the ground
Cold and drunk as I might be
Can’t jump a jet plane
Like you can a freight train
So I’d best be on my way
In the early mornin’ rain
So I’d best be on my way
In the early mornin’ rain

A Love Story..... Sorta

IMG_5704-2IMG_5714-2
After drooling over these pumps for several months and realizing that I drooled too long and my size had sold out everywhere, I was a tad bit sad until I found them sitting pretty in a boutique in Miami (see twitpic here of me wearing it.) At first I thought I was hallucinating. I was sunburnt and suffering a heatstroke due to falling asleep on the rooftop pool thanks to having too much fun the previous day. Once I realized that these were in fact the Isabel Marant pumps that I've been lusting after and the last pair which were my size I felt like my sunburn disappeared. Thanks to my lovely Wesley Mason, I brought these back to California with me and now they are sitting pretty on my desk. Unfortunately, I'm still quite burnt so I haven't actually worn them out yet.
The second picture is my current jewelry tray of my favorite pieces that I've been wearing all the time which includes necklaces from Anarchy Street, bracelets from Bimba & Lola, Low Luv, CC Skye, and a random jewelry place I found awhile back.

Independence Day
WhiteHeart
Look it, Daddy
Look at that parade

They got a marchin’ band

What is Independence Day?

Ask not
What your country can do for you
Ask
What you can do for your country

You got to know the truth
If you wanna be free

What is freedom anyway?

Let freedom ring
From every hill and mole hill in Mississippi
From every mountainside
Where all of God’s children
Black men and white men
Jews and Gentiles
Protestants and Catholics
Will be able to join hands
And sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual
Free at last
Free at last
Thank God Almighty
Free at last!

Listen to our declaration
Listen to our testament
We’ve been given a revelation
We’re sure of where we stand
So let the banner
Be unfurled
We found a Light of hope
In a dying world

Hear the myth of modern man
You’re the god of your own land
Call your weak
Spineless fools
You’ve given up your right to rule
But I’ve been to the land of me
And I know I was never free
Freedom came
When I gave it all away

So we’re callin’ it Independence Day
I call it Independence Day
Let the rockets blaze across the sky
Raise the flag of praise way up high
Let the doubters call it what they may
It’s Independence Day

You can work to crown another hundred kings
But I believe in a better dream
They may call it slavery
But the biggest chain I knew was me
So let the idols tumble down
The walls of lies crumble to the ground
I know where salvation can be found
Let the idols tumble down

That’s why they call it Independence Day
I call it Independence Day
Let the rockets blaze across the sky
Raise the flag of praise way up high
Let the doubters call it what they may
It’s Independence Day

So join in the celebration
It’s a birth of a holy nation
It’s people alike
We are proud to say

It’s why we call it Independence Day
I call it Independence Day
Let the doubters call it what they may
‘Cause we call it Independence Day

It’s Independence Day

Independence Day

TWO FOR TUESDAY

Not every song that will be featured here will be what is generally considered as being “Christian” in the eyes of this world. For some will be anguished cries from the pit of despair, and others will be quite obviously ferverent rants of rebellion. Nonetheless, be assured that they will all be of our Heavenly Father (in one way or another) and I hope that you have been given ears to hear the message.

Puff The Magic Dragon
Peter, Paul and Mary
Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly
Little Jackie Paper
Loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings
And sealing wax
And other fancy stuff

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

Together
They would travel
On a boat with billowed sail
And Jackie kept a lookout perched
On Puff’s gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes
Would bow whenever they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags
When Puff roared out his name

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

A dragon lives forever
But not so little boys
Painted wings
And giant rings
Make way for other toys
One grey night it happened
Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff
That mighty dragon
He ceased his fearless roar
His head was bent in sorrow
Green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play
Along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend
Puff could not be brave
So Puff
That mighty dragon
Sadly slipped into his cave

Oh Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land called Honahly
Puff
The magic dragon
Lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist
In a land call Honahly

When Colors Call My Name

01
(Anarchy Street Necklace, Ani Chain Tank, Bimba & Lola Starfish Cuff, Zara Orange Pleated Skirt, Joe's Jeans Brenda Wedges, Botkier Bag Coming Soon)

I'm currently suffering a too much sun attack illness because I fell asleep on the rooftop pool of my hotel on my last day. I've been feeling dizzy ever since I got back and have been sleeping nonstop. Can't believe I'm feeling sick after coming back from paradise. These pictures were taken before the sun attack and I've learned the importance of SPF. I swear, I put on SPF 30 but apparently it's not enough for the strong Miami sun. Gotta get my hands on SPF 70!
Hope you guys have a lovely week!!

Come Monday...HBO's Game of Thrones

“Come Monday…” is a weekly series that will involve a review of, or commentary about,  websites, movies, documentaries, television shows, sports, music, and whatever else may tickle my fancy at the time.  Be assured that these reviews will be generally positive, as in accordance to the Jimmy Buffett song “Come Monday.”  This is subject to change, however.  In fact, I would be most derelict in my duties to neglect going on a rant every once in a while.  For rants promote change, and change can be good—right?  Therefore, since good is generally considered as being a positive force in 99.3% of the parallel universes that I am aware of, even a rant could be considered as being something positive, and a genuine hissy-fit would be even better (so I’m told).

I don’t know if I was just not paying attention again, or if HBO didn’t promote this new series as widely as they have done for others in the past. For I can remember seeing ads for [Treme], [True Blood] and [Boardwalk Empire] on a number of other channels before they came out, but it was not until the first season of [Game of Thrones] was almost over before I saw an ad for it on a regular (non-premium) channel.

Yeah, I think I would have remembered. For Game of Thrones looked like it had everything that would keep me entertained (Do I dare say enthralled? Yes, I do believe I shall.) from start to finish.

Be assured that I am very grateful for having access to [HBO On Demand]. For I was able to watch the entire first season, and I’ll be faunching at the bit until time for the second season to begin. If you don’t have access to HBO On Demand, [HBO GO] is another option.

You see, Game of Thrones starts out as three separate storylines that are interconnected with each other, and I suspect that it will all boil down to one storyline, with each of the three playing a part. For the throne in play is the one over the seven kingdoms of Westeros, which is a fictitious England and Wales.

The politics surrounding the Iron Throne, which is the seat of power over the seven kingdoms, is the main storyline. Although, the opening of the series has us up north of the wall, which is a fictitious [Hadrian’s Wall], and this is part of a second storyline. For the wall is mostly manned by the outcasts of the southern kingdoms, and their faithful service in the Night’s Watch gives them an opportunity for at least some redemption in the eyes of their fellowman.

The third storyline follows the banished descendents of a former king over the seven kingdoms, who are over in a fictitious region of eastern Europe/western Asia attempting to raise an army to take back what they believe has been stolen from them. Now, I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but I can tell you that the very last scene of this storyline for the season was enough to keep me watching for as long as the show still airs.

No, this is not to say that it does not have its share of “uncomfortable” parts. For those who feel faint at just the thought of full frontal nudity and strong sexual situations, be forewarned that the Game of Thrones has at least a couple of scenes per episode where this is shown in very graphic detail, and for lovers of animals, there are some scenes that will make you sick. Well, at least they did me.

Nonetheless, Game of Thrones is a keeper. The following video should give you an idea of why I think so.

A Sunday Drive

Back during my childhood, our parents would often load up my brother and me after Sunday morning church services for a leisurely drive around where we lived.  Even though we were seeing mostly familiar sights, it was still good to see them, and this is why “A Sunday Drive” sounded about right for the name of a weekly series revisiting familiar sites that are well worth seeing again and again.  The link below the image is to the site itself, and the image is linked to the post it was first included in here.

In Miami

(Anarchy Street Necklace and Top, Urban Outfitters High Waisted Shorts, Jeffrey Campbell Ford Platforms c/o Need Supply, Botkier Bag coming soon)

Photos by the one and only Donatella

On Wednesday, I jetted out to Miami to shoot with Monica Botkier from Botkier for Vogue Eyewear CFDA City Collection. Monica designed a pair of sunglasses inspired by the city Miami which will be sold at Sunglass Hut later this year, so we toured around her favorite spots and really experienced the Miami life.
Can't wait to share with you guys more from this trip!
