coverage: National University hosts the UAAP 75th Season at SM Mall of Asia ARENA for 2012

Last August 2011, the UAAP , SM ARENA and NU officials announces that the next game for the 75th season of the UAAP will be at a new venue in SM Mall of Asia ARENA, a 20,000 full house seating capacity venue that will cater to entertainment and sports event. NU promised that we will see a never before seen opening ceremonies next year 2012 and they say tha the Filipino deserve to have the best of the venue for the game and soon to be home of international league to legendary games and champions. It was the most awaited announcement for all UAAP fans and I even heard that NU was supposed to host the 74th season but they decided to trade it with Ateneo de Manila for this year. NU will host the UAAP season for the 1st time and since they were acquired already by the SM Group of Companies and decided to move for next year and host the game at SM Mall of Asia Arena., and according them it is their 1st choice to host the game at the ARENA.



Here are some information I heard during the Q and A portion

- All seats at the ARENA will get a good view of the court
- There will be area and special entrance for players, promoters and press
- Strategic place and venue / seats for promoters
- Sports events and matches will be hosted in ARENA and it will support all kinds of sports
- There no details yet if PBA will have a game here or host at ARENA
- Can’t compare SMART Araneta and SM Arena, but they say that Araneta has a good plan for their own venue
- UAAP will not abandon Araneta, they will still use the venue, but they are still fixing the schedules but the main highlight today is to gost the game at ARENA since NU is in partner with SM
- All Championship series will be hosted at SM ARENA
-SM ARENA is 85% completed
- SM ARENA is the 1st venue to offer – corporate seats, high tech facilities, logistic requirements are complete, seats are comfy with cup holders and VIP sections around the ARENA.
- Venue is student friendly and convenient for fans and students
- UAPP will try to decide on the ticketing of DLSU and ADMU game, they are not yet sure if it will be on SM ARENA, they have plans in having the game at the venue but it will depend on the schedule
- for the basketball game, the SM ARENA can accommodate 16,000 seats, and will be more patron seats and make sure that everyone will be seated.
- SM ARENA WILL HAVE A WIFI !
- Media room and press box will be placed in strategic places for UAAP
- There will be a special access for student press
- Production room will be provided
- A place and seat for promoters only, no need to worry about seat reservation and all seats will be offered to all fans and audiences.

“We want students and schools to take part in the action. We don’t want to limit the excitement to the players,”Coach Edmund “Junel” Baculi, Jr., Athletics Director for National Univeristy mentioned.

"We wanted to hold off our hosting to 2012 ensure that we were prepared. The opening ceremonies will be so fantastic, that the enthusiasm will just rub off the audience,” said Mr. Nilo Ocampo, Director for Purchasing anf Alumnai Affairs of the National University, also current Vice President of the UAAP 74th Season.

Whew! That was a big update from the UAPP, NU and the SM ARENA, every details they give we already imagine what will be the main features of the new venue in SM MOA, I also heard that there will be a trade launching this October 11, 2011, I just hope that I will be invited again to cover and blog about this SM ARENA.

Opening of SM ARENA will be on May 2012, but they say that the venue might be finished around January 2012.

coverage: The Pacquiao-Marquez III Press Tour: Two Warriors Dedicates their Fight for their Country

Mabuhay Pilipinas!!! Viva Mexico!!! The warriors are set to faceoff for the first leg of the press tour. Another memorable history has come in the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila last August 3, 2011. There are thousands of people in attendance at the Quirino Grandstand in order to witness the Pacquiao-Marquez Press Tour. The Press Tour was set first here in the Philippines then they proceed to New York (Second Leg), Los Angeles (third Leg) and in Mexico (country of Juan Manuel Marquez) for the last leg of the Press Tour. It was an amazing day yesterday as the Filipinos and people around the world witnessed the star-studded and great production of the Press Tour. I was proud to be part of it because the event is very successful and we Filipinos are friendly enough in welcoming Juan Manuel “Dynamita” Marquez. I think that the “Dynamita” doesn’t show his real emotion because we heard no Trash Talk during the interview. Well, Let’s say “Natakot ba dahil nandito sa Pinas or masyado lang siya nadala sa pakikitungo natin at nalaman niya na very friendly and hospitable and mga Pinoy? Kaya hindi siya nakapagsabi ng kanyang hinanakit o masamang saloobin kay Pacman.”




We all know that there’s a personal grudge between the two warriors because of Pacquiao thought that he win the first fight but set to be a draw. While in second fight, Marquez insist that he won the fight but the score card of the judges favors Pacquiao. So, in the Pacquiao-Marquez III on November 12, 2011 (November 13 here in the Philippines), the two fighters promised that they will give us a full pack entertainment as they will bring best fight.

The conversation during the event yesterday is described as friendly talk between the two. No harsh talk just an inspirational talk that they told each other to train well in order to bring good fight. And they cracking jokes also as people are laughing while listening.

Here are some talks that I summarized during the interview proper of the Press Tour. The Interviewers are the well known broadcaster Arnold Clavio and Sports caster Chito Trinidad. It includes also the Top Rank CEO Bob Arum in the conversation. Bob Arum says that we must watch the fight on November 12 in order to find who the best fighter in the history of boxing is.

Manny Pacquiao says that their previous fights are very controversial in results in order to end up the battle between them; they must have the 3rd fight. Pacquiao also added that if he wins the fight, there’s already no doubt in the 2nd fight where he is the winner. Marquez answers that, forget the past and the future, we must talk on the present that November 12, people around the world will find out who will be the greatest warrior between them. Marquez says that Pacquiao must train well because he is training well also with all of his heart in order to win the battle. Both fighters told that they are not fighting just for their selves but they fight because of their dedications in their country. They can give the best fight as people wanted to see it. Pacquiao is promised that he can defeat Marquez for the 2nd time around. Marquez replied that he is not sure to defeat Pacquaio but he promise that he will fight with his heart and if he lost, he says that it might be time that he retire in boxing.

In continuation of the conversation, Arnold Clavio asked Manny Pacquiao if ever he wins the fight, is there any possibility to make it in 4th fight? Manny says that if he wins, there is still fourth fight but not already a boxing. He says that their fourth fight might be playing Basketball and no more boxing between them. When Chito Trinidad asked Marquez in comparing the upcoming fight to Pacman from his previous fight with Mayweather, the “Dynamita” says that is fight with Pacquaio is full battle of two warriors. They can box each other from time to time and no more running as he describes Mayweather as a running fighter that’s why he lost the match. Same with Pacquiao, he says that people will fully entertain in their fight because it will be a bloody fight as both of them is facing each other and box all the time. No running tactics to use just a full faceoff boxing. Lastly, both warriors insist that they must train well heart to heart and they give their best in giving the best fight. The both fighters are inviting Filipinos and people around the globe to watch their fight on November 12, 2011 and find out the best fighter between them.

In cooperation of the Pharma-Rex, Inc. the distributor of the top pain reliever medicine Cortal SQR, the life of Football here in our country is officially on the right path of becoming one of the major sport for the next few years. We all know that basketball is still the number one sport here in our country and beside that we have lot of champions in Boxing. Now, Cortal SQR supports the Philippine Football in order to gain more high quality players that can compete in local and International Football Cup for the next few years. The aim of the Cortal SQR is to promote Football for us to have the chance to claim the championship crown in different league of football games all over the world.



The journey began when our national team known as Philippine Azkals move on their best by winning some games in different football league. But unfortunately, they didn't make it for the 2nd round qualifying match for the Football World Cup. Well, it's alright. At least, they gave their heart in giving excellent result of winning some games despite of they are newbie in Football competition. They give honor to our country and they inspire lot of countrymen to embrace the game Football. As they said, it's not the end; it was just a beginning as they continue developing their skills in football and give a chance to get the champion crown in the next league where they play. Well watch out for the Phillipine Azkals because there are lot of leagues where they participate for the next few months and years.



Aside from Azkals, the team of street soccer teens is competing for the Homeless World Cup in Paris this coming August 21, 2011. This is the fourth appearance of our very own Homeless Street Soccer Team in the said world cup as they started 2003 in Austria. Let's pray for the team to win the said competition.



Last night in Manila Polo Club, the management of Pharma-Rex Inc., team Azkals and Homeless Soccer Team, together with the group of media is gathered for the Press Conference sponsored by Cortal SQR. In this press conference, it tackled about the uplifting of football in our country in order to introduce it and become one of the best sports that will embrace by Filipinos. It defined also that Filipino can be capable of winning the football because this game is regardless with the height of the player.



As the conference continues, Cortal SQR gave their supports in giving monetary support of 200,000Php to the Homeless Soccer Team and 500,000Php for the Philippine Azkals. Aside from that, the management of Cortal SQR gives some pledge that supports both teams in their needs. The management of Cortal SQR is very proud for the both teams as they go far in the world of football. Same as through with the Philippine Azkals and Homeless Soccer Team, they are very thankful that Cortal SQR is there to support them.



For us fellow countrymen, Let us be proud to our Philippine Football Team Azkals and Homeless Soccer Team as they give their heart in the action field of Football. Let us now embrace Football because it’s one way that we have a chance to compete in World Cup. We have already in boxing, but now let us see our flag in Football.

Philips Urban Adventure – one day race around Manila

Racers, adventure and thrill-seekers should check out this upcoming race adventure organized by Philips, in line with their 55 years in the Philippines, they are hosting a one whole day unique adventure race that will take place around Manila. Racers will be put up to a endurance, physical and mental test. Get ready! And I think eating a balut and isaw is included in the race as one of their challenge, just be sure that you are game into anything. Race will start on Aug 27.

Registration for the race is now ongoing, and interested teams may sign up at the official website, www.philipsurbanadventure.com, where they will be asked to upload a creative photo of themselves featuring anything related to Philips, such as a product, a store, or an activity that Philips is known for.



The photo must be accompanied by a short creative write-up describing the team and the photo concept, as well as explaining why they should be among the finalists. From the initial pool of entries, 24 teams will be shortlisted by Philips’ judging committee based on photo creativity (50%) and write-up creativity (50%). The 12 finalists will then be decided via public voting on the website.



The application period will run from August 2 to 15. The 24 shortlisted teams will be announced on August 17 via the official website and through Facebook, at www.facebook.com/philipsurbanadventure. Fans can vote for their favorite teams from August 17 to 22, with the 12 finalists set to be announced on August 23. Regular updates on the event will be posted on the Facebook page.

The Philips Urban Adventure is a one-day adventure race around Metro Manila, with P100,000 in cash and prizes at stake. Philippines to host the 1st Asia Pacific Hockey Summit

This is an exciting news for all hockey fans, the Philippines will be the1st to host a summit event for hockey, the big stage for learning and training for hockey will be at SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink. The big decision came from the Asia Pacific Hockey League Commissioner, Mike Condon, he chose our country to host the 1st summit for hockey that will kick off on August 25-28, 2011. SM Mall of Asia already upgraded their ice skating facilities and added more equipment for those who want to train and learn to play hockey.

They will going build and recruit more players to join in playing hockey, this will be a start of a new generation of players and also team that can join the Asia Pacific Hockey League and can compete to other teams from different countries. I felt excited that sports training camp style is back again, the summit is open for kids and adults who want to learn play ice hockey.

Other participants will fly here in the Philippines to take part of the hockey summit, all details are posted at www.asiapacifichockey.com on how to be part of the hockey summit.

At the pre event ceremony, they awarded the Minor Hockey League, a league that was organized by SM Ice Skating in support of the summit and for on ice exhibition tournament. We already have 3 teams on stand by,they are the Manila Hawks, Manila Saints and Manila Ice Hockey League, these teams are on an exhibition match happening this week in SM MOA Ice skating

There’s also another team – the Manila Predators who recently won the Asian men’s B division ice hockey 5s championship in Hong Kong, and the team just brewed our very own star player named LR Lancero, 15 year old hockey player from Bacoor, Cavite, he is also a the youngest Under18 division player for the North American Hockey League through the Boston Junior Rangers.

On August 25-28, all roads goes to SM Ice Skating in SM MOA for the 1st Asia Pacific Hockey Summit, the great part here is that pinoys will start to learn more about hockey and if we already mastered other sports like basketball, bowling, baseball, boxing, volleyball and the new trending sport – futball and rugby, we see that hockey is rising and it’s a great start that we are building new champs that carries our flags that the pinoys can do it and win in any challenge in every sport.

I play hockey during the times of my senior high school years up to college freshmen, it was just a street hockey game that we play every Saturday in the parking lot of SM North Edsa, we create our own set up there and even customize our own goal with net, and hockey sticks that are made of aluminum for the stick and chopping board for the wing, and we wrapped it around with tennis band stickers.

I’m glad that SM Ice Skating already promoting this kind of sport, it is the sport that I grew up with after aggressive inline skating and skateboard, because it is a different sport that is very uncommon to others, I love to be unique that time, and now I’m happy that many people are starting appreciate the sport that I play.
